First Impression

There is an old saying “First impression is the last impression”

I don’t know how many of you believe this but according to my experience I would say first impression is important but it can not be last.

Impressions are totally circumstantial, actually it depends on a lot of factors such as situation, mood, personality, people, dressing sense, place to name a few but mainly it depends on two factors that is situation and mood. I will give you an example and I am sure many of you will agree with this, so just imagine it is your first day to college you are in your classroom and your teacher(aged between 45yrs – 50 yrs)  enters the classroom, he seems very strict, shouting on students, talking to everyone rudely. What will be your thought about him and can it be the last impression?

I believe no, may be that day he’s had a fight with his wife, neighbor or may be he had some argument with his son or daughter or may be he is going through some financial crisis there can be n number of reasons for his behavior that day and after sometime you realize that he is one of the best teacher  and person of your life.

Same situation is when you do not find a person according to your choice and taste and after sometime he/she turns out to be one of your best friend.

It can happen in your office with your boss or colleagues.

It can happen when you are interviewing a candidate, I will give you an example. So imagine you were waiting for a candidate to interview. One person enters the room wearing normal clothes without iron with some stains on his/her shirt and suddenly you will make an image of his /her personality and you just continue the interview for formality because you already had an impression about him and you decided in your mind that you will not hire him/her. However if you interview him/her properly with all your questions he seems very good with academics, talking, confident and you think to give him/her a chance and he turns out to be one of your best hires.

Even when it comes to love it can happen there also, it happened to me my wife told me that my first impression was not at all great and now we are married and it is almost 15 years we are together.

Here I am not trying to say that one should not be cautious about first impression. Of course it is important, it creates a lasting effect but it can not be last.

So guys do not judge anyone too quickly.

The reason behind writing this article is that I believe, before judging anyone we should give more chances to people so that they can prove themselves. Life is full of critics, we should be appreciative as the world needs more of it.
